Beginning Stages
The idea of virtual reality was first conceived by an electrical engineer and naval radar technician named Douglas Engelbarrt in the 1950s. He designed and made a prototype of the first computer with a screen and a mouse for better manipulation of data, resulting in the creation of the first modern day computer. Douglas' idea eventually lead to the evolution of computers
VR began to advance when aircraft designers began experimenting with ways for computers to develop aircraft models. Computer experts began redesigning computers so they could display these models. Following WWII and throughout the 1990s, the first true form of virtual reality was the development of the flight simulator. This was used to train military personnel before subjecting them to the dangers of flight. This was the first interactive virtual environment.
